Katherine M. Elias died peacefully on Sunday, November 3 following a long illness; she would have turned 70 on November 11th. Kathy was the daughter of the late Fred and Evon (Erban) Elias. She was raised in Lawrence and Methuen, graduated from Presentation of Mary Academy, and attended the University of Massachusetts in Amherst where she earned her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Speech Therapy. After living in Portland, Maine for a few years, Kathy returned to Massachusetts to work in the Belmont school system. Following that, she opened her own successful, private practice in Arlington. Kathy particularly enjoyed working with children, for which she earned awards. She continued her practice until 2012 when she became ill. Two years later, in 2014, she moved to the Edgewood Retirement community in North Andover.
Kathy was a warm, generous, accomplished woman who enjoyed many activities: tennis, golf, gardening, reading, and quilting. She also donated her time, venturing South to help re-build homes with Habitat for Humanity following natural disasters.
She is survived by two brothers, Rick from Acton, MA and John and his wife, Cindy, from Peoria, Illinois; a nephew, Christopher and his wife, Lindsay, from Minneapolis, Minn.; two nieces, Lauren from Southbridge, MA and Allison from Peoria; and many first and second cousins.
