Lillian Gabriel, our beloved sister and aunt, passed peacefully after 99 years on Wednesday evening, September 4, 2019, after a long illness.
Born in Lawrence on April 10, 1920, Lillian was the daughter of William and Sadie (Hamman) Gabriel. She was educated in Lawrence schools and was a lifelong Lawrencian who loved walking the city enjoying all that Essex Street had to offer.
Lillian was raised along with her eight brothers and sisters in the Lebanese Plains neighborhood of Lawrence and was a devoted parishioner of Saint Anthony Maronite Church where she was a member of the Ladies Sodality and the Daughters of Saint Anthony. She was a longtime employee at Tyer Rubber Company in Andover.
Lillian was predeceased by her brothers, Louis Gabriel, James Gabriel, Thomas “Gabby” Gabriel and his wife, Clara, and William Gabriel as well as her sisters and best friends, Ann Gabriel and Edith Gabriel. She was also predeceased by her sister-in-law, May (Touma) Gabriel and her nephew, James Gabriel.
Lillian is survived by her brothers, Edward “Scotty” Gabriel and Philip Gabriel. Her niece, Marci Gabriel Poirier, and her four nephews Kenneth E. Gabriel, Edward J. Gabriel, Thomas Gabriel and Edmond Gabriel and their families as well as many cousins including Kathleen Gabriel.
A funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at 11:00 am at St. Anthony Maronite Church located at 145 Amesbury Street, Lawrence, MA. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Maronite Cemetery, North Lowell Street, Methuen, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 from 9:00 am to 10:45 am at St. Anthony Maronite Church. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations in Lillian’s memory be made to St. Anthony Maronite Church.
