Rey Velazquez, 37, of Lawrence, MA, passed away on 28th of November, in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
Rey was born on May 21, 1981 in Stoneham, MA, the youngest son of the late Luis C. Velazques and and his wife, Ines Velazquez-Figueroa. Rey leaves behind a son Christopher Velazquez of Salem, MA of whom he was very proud.
Rey was born a big baby and in the hours after his birth his father exclaimed you are "El Rey", which means you are "the King". That name stuck when infant Rey reacted by opening his eyes and smiling. The nurses were baffled.
Rey enjoyed doing magic card tricks for his family and playing dominoes. He loved life and was always singing and making up songs and sayings just to make people laugh. Rey loved to eat and his favorite dish was roast pork with yellow rice.
Through his life Rey earned many apprentice diplomas but it was not until he sat behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler that he found his true passion. Rey drove trucks across the United States for over six years.
Rey was survived by his brothers, Luis A. Velazquez of Methuen and Japhet Velazquez of Bow, NH. Sisters, Lourdes Velazquez and Lavinia Velazquez and Rossana Velazquez all of RI. In addition, Rey is survived by 2 nieces and 4 nephews and his godmother, Marie Archondis of Georgetown, MA.
Friends may call today, Wednesday, December 5, 2018 from 4pm to 8pm at Farrah Funeral Home, 133 Lawrence st. Lawrence, MA 01841. His funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 10am to 11am. Burial will follow at St. Mary-Immaculate Conception Cemetery, in Lawrence, where he will lay to rest beside his parents.
