Angel Melendez, 56 passed away on March 25 after a long illness.
Angel is predeceased by his mother Norma Villafane, his father Juan Melendez, his brother Pito Diaz, and his sister Anna Diaz.
Born in Connecticut, Angel has lived within the Merrimack Valley his whole life.
Angel loved family.
Having all nine of his children and his many grandchildren around brought him joy.
Angel leaves his wife of twenty-two years Mary, and their sons James and Israel;
Son, Robert & Daughter Angela Melendez. Daughters Natasha & Kendra son Jon Berard; daughter Missy Nieves and son Joshua Simmons. Angel leaves one sister, Judy who he loved very much, many grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Before diabetes took Angel's ability to work, he worked for Fiesta Shows, and Griffin Catering for many years. Over the last two years, Angel volunteered for 411 Cares Inc. Serving the Veterans, Elders, and the homeless.
Angel left an impression on all who met him and forever will be remembered by many people. Some may remember Angel playing Dice at the Hancock Projects; some may remember him fixing the Apollo ride and the zipper or cooking a sausage on the grill, but all remember Angel and think He was a hell of a guy, who went through a lot.
Angel spent 17 years battling diabetes and chronic kidney disease; for the past 7 years, Angel lived wheelchair-bound due to the loss of limbs. Angel is a legend. Not only in our memories; he has lived 17 years on mechanical dialysis, and the average is five. A fighter for sure!
