Antoine Ghosen Obituary

Antoine Ghosen, 88, of North Andover passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at his home with his family at his bedside. Antoine was born and educated Lattakia, Syria, the son of the late Khalil Ghosen and his wife Roujina Algemayel. Antoine was retired a vice president of the Syrian Commercial Bank in Lattakia. Early in his life, Antoine was a member of the Syrian National Basketball Team and later, he earned recognition as the first Syrian International Referee in international Basketball. After retiring as an international referee Antoine was elected to the Board of Directors of "Tishreen Athletic Club", a sports complex in Lattakia. Antoine was an active athlete and enjoyed swimming. In 1965 he met his wife to be, Leila Fakhoury in Damacus, Syria. They made their home in Lattakia and raised 3 children there. In 2017, Antoine and Leila moved to North Andover to join their daughter and her family.

When he came to North Andover, Antoine continued his athletic course and participated in many athletic activities. HIs family was everything to him. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren here and in Lattakia.

Antoine was a parishioner of St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church in Lawrence and the Maronite Church in Lattakia.

Her was widower of the late Leila Fakhoury who passed away on August 15, 2023.

Antonie is survived by his children, Rania and Fady and his family of Syria. Roula and her husband Bassil Zaza of North Andover.

A Funeral Liturgy will be offered, Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 145 Amesbury Street, Lawrence, MA 01841. Friends may call, Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 5:00 to 6:00 pm at St. Anthony Church where Antoine will lie-in-state.

Burial beside his beloved wife, will be at 1:00 pm at St. Anthony Cemetery, North Lowell Street, Methuen, MA.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 145 Amesbury Street, Lawrence, MA 01841.
