Carmen M. Salgado Maldonado
1933-2020
Carmen M. Salgado Maldonado 87, of Lawrence, MA, passed away peacefully at home
on August 27, 2020. She was the wife of the late Dionisio S. Mercado, they were
married for 57 years. She was the daughter of the late Pedro and Clotilde Maldonado.
Mami was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico. After getting married, she and her husband
moved to Springfield, Massachusetts where they lived for 13 years before moving to
Lawrence, MA. Mami was a homemaker.
Mami and her husband enjoyed hosting holiday parties and birthday celebrations their
home was always open to all. She was a great cook and loved spending time with her
children, grandchildren and her sisters, her family meant the world to her. She also,
loved singing and dancing, she was a regular at the special events hosted at the Mary
Immaculate Elder Housing and often was asked by the lead singer to sing along with
the band. Mami was a wonderful storyteller, as children we heard stories of growing up
in Puerto Rico, she would laugh when telling of the chores she would refuse to do, we
enjoyed the stories of the townspeople the most. She was loving, gentle, kind and full of
wisdom with the patience of a saint, which was evident when at one time she babysat
10 children all under the age of 10 to help single moms go to work.
Among so many great attributes, she will be mostly remembered by her infectious
laughter, her love for her children, family and God. She was loved by everyone who
met her. She is especially adored by her family.
Mami, Guelita Tia as her family knows her will be greatly missed.
