Clemente Reyes

Clemente Reyes,79, of Lawrence, Massachusetts, passed away on December 14, 2020.

Clemente was born in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic in 1941. Entrepreneurial, independent, and adventurous from the beginning, he dreamed of having his own business and moving to the United States to build a better future.

As a young man, he met Aura Alvarez, through his friend Colon, who also happened to be Aura’s brother. Colon joked with Clemente that they would be brothers-in-law at the introduction. They began a courtship, and after three months, Clemente proposed to Aura. They were married in La Vega in 1963. Together they had three children; two sons and a daughter.

Shortly after the nuptials, the couple made plans to build a life in the United States. Landing in New York City with his young wife, Clemente launched a laundromat business and ran it for a few years. In 1974, they then decided to leave New York to raise their young family in Lawrence, MA where a good family life and an abundance of employment could be had. He worked in the various local mills and factories in the area. Clemente was most proud of being able to provide a supportive home life and a solid education for their children.

In his spare time, Clemente enjoyed fixing up and selling older Volvo and Mercedes Benz’s car models. He spent countless hours listening to local and Dominican news on both his radio and on tv. An avid music lover, he had an uncanny ability to name artists from his youth along with a story of his life the song reminded him of.

Clemente is survived by his wife and children Mayra, Apolinar, and George, and grandson George Reyes Jr.

Funeral Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Entombement will be at St. Mary-Immaculate Conception Mausoleum in Methuen.

Pasó innumerables horas escuchando noticias locales y dominicanas tanto en su radio como en la televisión. Amante de la música, tenía una habilidad increíble para nombrar artistas de su juventud junto con una historia de su vida que la canción le recordaba.
Clemente es sobrevivido por su esposa y sus hijos Mayra, Apolinar y George, y su nieto George Reyes Jr.
