Our beloved father, Domingo Antonio Mercado, passed away on December 28, 2020. He was 67 years old.
Domingo was born in Santiago, Republica Dominicana in 1953 into a family where education, faith, responsibility, and hard work were held in high regard. He grew up to value those principles and further develop them in college where he graduated with a degree in accounting. He met the love of his life, Maria, and had his first child, Jenny, before immigrating to the United States.
Having settled in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Domingo and his wife had two more children, their twin sons, Luis and Irving. They worked tirelessly to provide their children with the best education possible (at school and at home), with a good home, a good example, and a good life. Domingo’s wisdom, humility, strength, compassion, and love of life are just a few of the qualities that we will miss. He was also just so funny! Everyone who knew him has at least one or two funny anecdotes. Whether he was coaching the St. Mary’s basketball team or serving as master of ceremony at a wedding or quinceanera, Domingo strived for excellence.
Domingo will always be remembered by his family, friends, even mere acquaintances, as a good man. The type of person you knew you can count on, you knew was on your side without judgment, and would work tirelessly to help you - expecting nothing in return. He was not very tall in stature, but when he walked into the room, he was the largest presence and the most magnetic. His smile was always genuine, sincere, and infectious. His hugs, incomparable. Until we hug again, daddy! We love you!
Psalm 91
Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; he is my God, and I trust him. For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you. Just open your eyes, and see how the wicked are punished...
The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.”
Salmo 91
Aunque caigan mil a tu lado, aunque mueran diez mil a tu alrededor, esos males no te tocarán.
