It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Gerardo Amaro, 58, of
Lawrence, Massachusetts. He passed away unexpectedly in his home on September 12, 2022.
He was born on September 24, 1963 in Santo Domingo, Santo Domingo. He is the son of Maria
Magnolia Buñols and the late Domingo Amaro. He is survived by his children Taisha Quijano,
Gerald Amaro, Michael Veras, his six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Gerardo Amaro, also known as Chopy and Gerry a veteran of the Army National Guard, served
for six years before obtaining his honorable discharge. He was an excellent marksman (rifle M-
16) and expert in hand grenades. In his journey, Gerardo had made many friends and left us
with an unforgettable impact on all of us along the way. Gerardo is known for his sense of
humor, always happy demeanor with a huge infectious smile and giving nature. He had the
utmost passion for music but really loved salsa the most. He had a sweet tooth and was also
known as the “Candyman” he always loved to give the little one’s candy. He was a big war
movie buff. After serving the Army national guard, Gerardo had continued his career in various
