Nereida C. Castaños, 92, passed away peacefully at Lawrence General Hospital on March 14, 2021. Even in the midst of a global pandemic, the staff at LGH was able to let Nereida pass away surrounded by close family. Nereida immigrated to Lawrence, MA from the Dominican Republic in the mid 70’s, and worked at AT&T until she retired after 25 years of service. She was a lively, compassionate, and empathetic woman who cared deeply about her friends and family. She was a woman of God and faith who always prayed for the people she cared about. Nereida was always showering her family in love through cooking and baking traditional Domincan foods, and through helpful acts of service. Her favorite pastimes were playing bingo at the Lawrence senior center, and taking day trips to Foxwoods for countless hours of slots and buffet food. She traveled by way of her “limousine,” the MVRTA, and loved to spend hours shopping. Nereida always welcomed people into her home, and you could typically find her sitting peacefully at home with a word search book. Her phone line and door were always open to all, and she loved and cherished daily communications from family and friends.
Nereida is survived by her brother Fausto Castanos of Lawrence, MA. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her deeply.
