LAWRENCE, MA — Palmira S. Defreitas, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2020, at Bearmountain Nursing Home in Andover. Mrs. Defreitas was born and educated in Flores, Azores, Portugal, the daughter of the late Francisco Vitraneo Chaves and his wife Maria Da Silveria Chaves. She was the widow of Jose A. Defreitas and together they immigrated to Toronto, Canada, in 1959, and then settled in Lawrence in 1975. Mrs. Defreitas retired as a home health aid. She is survived by her son, Edgar S. Defreitas and his wife, Elsa M. (DeMelo) Defreitas of Lawrence and their children, Edgar S. Defreitas Jr. and his wife, Tiffany (Galus) Defreitas of Derry, N.H., and Nicole A. Defreitas and her fiancé Chino Rivera and her daughter, three-year-old Alexis Rivera of Lawrence; daughter, Edna S. Kruk, wife of Joseph T. Kruk of South Weymouth, Mass. Palmira is also survived by a brother Frank Chaves of Lodi, Calif. She was blessed by several nieces and nephews. Due to the national health emergency, funeral services and burial at Immaculate Conception Cemetery will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2020 and will be private.
