It is with heavy hearts that on Saturday, February 14, 2020, Pedro Mercedes Medina, loving husband, father of two children, and grandfather passed away at the age of 65. Pedro was born to Jose Medina and Virginia Diaz on January 31, 1956, in Tenares, Dominican Republic. He grew up in the rural countryside helping with the family farm. He worked early on as a taxi driver in the Dominican Republic. He met the love of his life while working as a taxi cab driver who later became his wife, Josefina Lorenza Dinero.
Pedro and Josefina married and moved to Lawrence, MA, and raised a daughter and son, Loreanny and Lenny. As a young father Pedro worked tirelessly as a taxi driver where his love of cars led him to his love of semi-trucks. Pedro came to this country full of dreams and hopes and built what would become the Medina Trucking Company. Pedro was always there with a helping hand and a smile; He left behind a legacy of what it means to be a friend and family. No job was too big or too small and everyone was considered family. His love for family was seen with the arrival of his grandchildren, Oceanny and Olanny. He would often be found sitting to watch “Tom and Jerry” with the grandchildren. In the summer he would be fixing a truck with Oceanny at his side helping “Papa” or pushing Olanny on her bicycle after they had coffee.
Pedro has a passion for people and getting to know him. His greatest passion was his 1967 Datsun that he would spend hours repairing or working on “Blacky” his truck, which was often called the third child. He loved long car rides and talking about how it was when he came to this country. He loved good food and usually, his rides included dinner at hidden places with great food. He had a belly laugh that light up a room putting everyone at ease.
