RAFAEL TOBIAS HERRERA
Rafael Tobias Herrera passed away peacefully and subtly in his sleep, at the age of 101 on Friday, April 2, 2021 in Lawrence Massachusetts. He was tenderly accompanied by his family when we found out about his demise.
Rafael was born on a Tuesday, July 15, 1919 in Jayabo, Salcedo, Dom. Rep.
The son of Eusebio Antonio Rosario Padron and Maria Matilde Herrera.
Rafael was one of the younger children of 14 siblings procreated in the family, which is survived by 4 of his siblings.
At the age of 24, he married in February 1944 with the love of his life, Martina Hernandez, daughter of Salutiano Hernandez and Primitiva Martinez and who would accompany him until the moment she died in the Dominican Republic in January 2013.
Rafael loved his family immensely, but especially each of his children.
He was a husband, and a proud father of the family that he had formed with his wife and his 9 children.
Chela, Felicia, Amelia, Aurelio, Isabel, Estebania, America, Sixto and Valentina.
In 1987, he emigrated to the United States with his wife, where 3 of his children were waiting for him, who already resided in this country, Chela, Aurelio and Amelia.
Rafael was a pampering, charismatic and fun grandfather of 37 grandchildren whom he loved, 82 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. He treated all of them with the same affection, he did not mark differences between any, but always feeling proud of the great family line with which he had been blessed.
He knew and recognized the names and faces of each of her grandchildren and as for the great-grandchildren, if not he know, he always made sure with a question..... and which of the children are you? ... with a firm voice of pride and joy at the same time, because for him all his grandchildren were also his children.
He liked to dance, play his numbers and, as we would say tenderly, always have his little money. He liked to pamper and to be pampered all the time even more in his old age. He liked to go out for walks or hikes, and to be visited, his favorite color was blue.
He loved to go every year to his beloved land of Tenares, Dominican Republic and bring gifts to his family and friends and his godchildren. He liked to help others sometimes by disposing of his own belongings, he liked to talk and tell stories about his life in the fields of Tenares. Rafael lived a full and rewarding life under the will and mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ.
