Richard S. Maroon, our beloved patriarch, passed peacefully after 82 wonderful years on Thursday, July 30, 2020, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Lowell on September 20, 1937, Richard was the youngest son of Siede and Cecelia (Raya) Maroon. He was educated in Lowell Schools and graduated from Lowell Academy Hairstyling Institute in 1955.
Richard was raised along with his six brothers and sisters and countless nieces and nephews at the family compound on Suffolk Street in Lowell’s Acre neighborhood. He was a devoted parishioner of Saint Anthony Maronite Church where he was a member of the Holy Name Society.
In 1955, Richard followed in the footsteps of his older siblings and became a hairdresser, first working in Lowell at Maroon’s Hair Salon on Prescott Street. He later became the proud operator of Richard Maroon Hairstylist in Methuen and later enjoyed passing on the family trade to his nephew and nieces in their salons. He retired in 2018 at the age of 80 after more than 60 years of making people look and feel their best.
In 1973, Richard moved to Dale Street in Methuen to live alongside his older brothers and their families where they created a circle of love and support that continues to this day.
On October 30, 1988, Richard’s life began anew when he married his devoted wife, Louise Fredette, and together they raised two beautiful children, Alex and Victoria, who never left their father’s side. Nothing made Rich happier than the happy home that they shared together as a family and seeing the wonderful joy and success enjoyed by all of his children and grandchildren.
Richard was predeceased by his brothers, Fred T. Maroon and his wife, Alice, John Maroon, and Ronald Maroon and his wife, Noha, as well as his sisters, Victoria Mansur and her husband, Zyke, Mary Elkareh and her husband Joseph and Rose Nachef and her husband Malak. He was also predeceased by his in-laws, Gerry and Georgette Fredette and his nieces and nephews with whom he shared a very special bond, Samuel Maroon, Dorothy Gabriel, Robert Mansur and Joseph Maroon.
Along with his wife Louise, Richard is survived by his loving children, Richard Maroon and his wife, Karina, Denise Maroon and her husband, Romero, John Paul Maroon and his wife, Manijeh, Robert Maroon and his wife, Ileana, Alexander Maroon and Victoria Maroon; his sister-in-law, Violette Maroon; nine grandchildren, and many, many godchildren, nieces, and nephews who loved and adored their Uncle Richie.
