Marine Corps Sergeant Johanny Rosario Pichardo 25, a member of the 5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade, Naval Support Activity, Bahrain and that brigade's Female Engagement Team who was screening women and children at the Abbey Gate of the Hamid Karzai International Airport, Kabul, Afghanistan died on Thursday, August 26, 2021 along with her 9 Marine Brothers, 1 Marine Sister, 1 US Navy Corpsman and 1 US Army soldier from a terrorist attack. In addition, nearly 200 Afghan men, women and children died that day. Her family honors the US service men and women who were injured in the attack and pray for their quick recovery.
The United States Marine Corps have transported Sergeant Rosario Pichardo's remains and those of her fellow soldiers to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware where her mother and siblings and President and Mrs. Biden and the families of her fallen comrades participated in a Dignified Transfer ritual.
On September 11, 2021 the United States Marine Corps will fly Sergeant Rosario Pichardo's remains to Boston's Logan International Airport where she will be received by her mother and siblings and honored guests. Those repatriation services are private and for family only.
A public visitation will be held, Tuesday, September 14, 2021 from 11:00 to 2:00 PM at Lawrence Veterans Memorial Stadium, Rt. 495 at Rt. 114, Lawrence, MA 01843.
At 2:00 p.m. eulogies will be offered until approximately 3:00 p.m.
A "Liturgy of the Word" in Sergeant Rosario Pichardo's memory will be offered by Bishop Most Reverend Robert Francis Hennessey, Auxiliary Bishop of Boston and Regional Bishop of the Merrimack Valley and Fr. Israel Rodriguez, Administrator of St. Mary Of the Assumption Parish in Lawrence, MA.
Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Lawrence, MA.
